What Type of Wet Basement Problem Are You Experiencing?

Flooded Basement

Flooded basements are caused by too much water overflow from rain or backed-up basement drain that needs help with the excess water. A flooded basement would be best treated with a combination of:

  • Interior Waterproofing
  • Exterior Waterproofing
  • Sump Pump

Wall Leaks

Wall leaks are caused by too much water pressure pushing against your basement walls underground and/or your foundation shifting. Eventually, this can lead to porous concrete leaks or wall crack leaks that need to be sealed. Foundation shifting, depending on the level of seriousness, may need support. Wall leaks would be best treated with a combination of:

  • Exterior Waterproofing
  • Wall Crack Repair

Floor Leaks

Floor leaks are caused by too much water pressure beneath your home creating leaking floor cracks with water seepage. Floor leaks would be best treated with a combination of:

  • Interior Waterproofing
  • Exterior Waterproofing

Sump Pump Overflow

Sump pump overflow is caused by either a faulty sump pump or a sump pump that cannot pump enough water to keep your basement from flooding. Depending on your case, a faulty sump pump overflow would be best treated with:

  • New Sump Pump Installation

A sump pump overflow caused by too much water in the basement will need more assistance to properly divert your water. This would be best fixed with:

  • Interior Waterproofing
  • Exterior Waterproofing (Only if your yard drain/grading is bad)

Basement Mold/Mildew

Basement mold/mildew is caused not necessarily from a wet basement but a damp atmosphere/environment. If your basement is not sealed air tight or your home is located in a very cold and damp climate, you're prone to basement moisture. A damp basement would be best treated with:

  • Basement Dehumidifier

If your basement is moldy due to floods and water damage, we recommend:

  • Interior Waterproofing

Basement Drain Overflow

Basement drain overflow is caused by too much water trying to be drained through your normal plumbing pipes and cannot keep up with the amount of water coming in. (In rare cases it can be a clog in which case contact your local plumbing dealer). Depending on the severity, basement drain overflow would be best treated with:

  • Sump Pump ***
  • Interior Waterproofing **
  • Exterior Waterproofing *

Leaky Creases (Cove Joints)

Leaky creases or cove joints (where the wall meets the floor) is caused by similar issues with wall cracks. Too much water pressure in the soil pushing against your basement walls. If your soil is soft enough, water can go as far down as your basement floor and try to seep through the cove joints if not sealed properly. Leaky creases would be best treated with a combination of:

  • Interior Waterproofing
  • Exterior Waterproofing

Leaky Basement Window

A leaky basement window is caused by lack of a window well and/or poor yard grading; where rain water flows towards your home instead of downhill or away from it. If your home has a below ground basement window, you're susceptible to rain water leaking through and into your basement. Leaky basement window would be best treated with:

  • Window Well Installation

With a window well you will not need yard grading unless your entire zone/county/city is prone to flooding.
